In a dystopian future, a private school unfreezes bodies, trains them to be unquestioning and emotionless individuals, and sells them as workers to various companies. Despite being on the brink of
collapse, the school's administration continues its operations. However, the system crumbles when a student organizes a rebellion among their classmates.
In "Elçi," we witness how a system, believed to be the solution, actually leads to a disaster. The issue lies not only in the fundamental rules of the system but also in the power centers behind it.
In my opinion, this film addresses critically important themes. It portrays a potential dystopia, tackles a problem that society will ultimately overcome, and explores the sources that sustain the
characters. These elements together may turn the film into a guide for the future. While we may not be able to foresee everything, taking preventive measures against similar issues will bring us
closer to a solution. Through "Elçi," I aim to provoke thought and encourage vigilance against the potential misuse of power and the consequences of blind adherence to flawed systems. This film serves
as a cautionary tale and a call to action, reminding us that awareness and preparedness are key to navigating the complexities of our future. In "Elçi," the atmosphere is constantly tense, and in some
scenes, the characters experience dream-like levels of fear, revealing that certain realities are more terrifying than our nightmares. In such a dystopia, distinguishing between nightmare and reality
can only be done at a perceptual level. Some of our fears might simply be products of our own imagination. Not every unanswered question has a terrifying answer. It was quite challenging to depict
this in Ayşe's psychology. Even though we are the ones living through the events and the main characters in our own lives, we cannot be the protagonists of every situation and event. A third person's
perspective will alter what is considered right and wrong. For "Elçi," to exist is not merely about being seen in the foreground by others. This gives "Elçi" a special significance for me. "Elçi"
portrays the struggle of living in a reality where fear and perception are interwoven, and the power structures behind a supposedly utopian system create a chilling dystopia. The film delves into the
themes of control, reality, and the subjective nature of fear and truth. It serves as a reminder that while some fears are baseless, the systems we trust can harbor true horrors. "Elçi" is a deeply
personal exploration of these ideas, presenting a cautionary tale about the delicate balance between reality and perception, and the power of individual perspective in understanding and confronting
our fears. Not only for these reasons but also for the effort we put into capturing the film's tone, which actually created more tension than the film itself. I worked with an extraordinary team, and
what generated the tension was the shooting atmosphere. I believe this contributed to the film's success. Keeping the atmosphere tense while everyone enjoyed their work was crucial. This was not
difficult because the faculty building where we shot the film was an ideal location. As a result, "Elçi" is a remarkable film despite its challenges. Our efforts in creating it will have a lasting
impact on people, much like a vaccine.
