Ali, who lives in London today, returns to Istanbul with his wife when he learns
that his parents have started to live separately. His goal is to reunite them.
Her father tells her that her mother is not what she used to be. Ali cannot make
sense of it. Then he goes to see his mother. They chat very well with their
mother. According to Ali, his mother is the same ex-mother. When her mother
tells her that she is making a cake and it is in the fridge, he is very happy
and happily runs to the kitchen. He stiffened at the sight he saw when he opened
the refrigerator door. The scene he sees is his mother's muddy boots in the
refrigerator. In the short film called The Cake, Ali, who lives abroad with his
wife, returns to Istanbul from abroad to make amends when he learns that his
parents are living separately. When he meets his father, he learns that his
mother has changed, but he does not quite understand what his father means. When
he talks to his mother, he sees that there is no change in his mother.
Everything is normal. Until the moment she opened the refrigerator door to get
the cake her mother made. In the scene he sees when he opens the lid, he learns
bitterly that his mother has Alzheimer's disease. In this story, the focus is on
the shock of the first moment when a child learns that his mother has
Alzheimer's disease. When Alzheimer's disease is diagnosed, the disease is not
well understood at first. Our mothers, fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers who
have Alzheimer's do unusual things in the early stages of the disease. It's like
calling us when he sees the glass on the table, confusing us with someone else.
We give them for a while to old age or distraction. But one day they commit such
an unusual act that we then clearly learn the truth. And from that moment on,
our mother, father, grandmother or grandfather are no longer the same mother,
father, grandmother or grandfather. The film deals with only one example of this
painful situation, which has millions of similar experiences, in a fictional
story.
